This is who I am today...unapologetically

I am unapologetically mainstream, not because I am a rebel without a cause or because I am "uncultured", but because I am happy. comfortable. secure.
I do not need to label the culture I am a part of in order to explain to you what defines me.
Hell, I don't even need to explain myself to you at all.
I do not need to jeer at high-top and hoody clad individuals in order to make myself feel more secure about the clothes on my back.
I LOVE hip-hop, but I am still able to differentiate between "bitches & niggers" and ladies and gentlemen, yet still find the piano keys euphonic beyond the black & white.
I love fashion, not because it is appearance based, but because it is an art of self-expression, of saying "This is who I am today."
I wear make-up everyday, not because I want to hide my flaws, but rather as a means of embracing them. A mere ode to femininity.
I rate him based on his aesthetic pleasure first, because I cannot Superman into his heart-and-soul and swoon over his personality as we shimmy past each other in the entry and exit of a lecture venue.
I laugh because I am free.
I strut because I walk with God.
I speak my mind because, contrary to your belief, it is not empty.
And as for being powerful...I'm comfortable with that.
I may not share the same beliefs, tastes, opinions and sentiments, but surely that is why there is beauty in diversity.
This is who I am today, because I choose to be this way.
